Using jQuery as a tool to improve the user experience of a website

These days there are ample opportunities to spice up one’s website with so-called Web 2.0 features by means of javascript functions. We have realized it on this website using jQuery library.

jQuery is included with DotNetNuke version 5 and offers interesting possibilities, however, the strongest feature of jQuery is it extensibility. Using plug-ins is a breeze; the most difficult part is finding the one you like best.

On the homepage we added the default announcement module, but made it into a carousel. On other pages you’ll find a contact button that slides out. Other plug-ins we used, are: hoverIntent for the menu and qTip for a contact form.
